Imam Mohammed Elfarooqui

Biography

He moved to Houston in 2016 and began serving right away as assistant imam to his father, a scholar of the dīn in his own right, learning the work of the masjid at his side. He went on to serve as khaṭīb at Masjid Aqsa in Katy for a year and a half, and then spent nearly eight years at Baytown Islamic Center and Maryam Islamic Center in Sugar Land, all within the Islamic Society of Greater Houston. Most recently he served as Resident Scholar at the ICNA Outreach Center in Cypress. Across these communities he has led educational programming, delivered the Friday khuṭbah, and advised families and individuals on questions of fiqh and the personal matters that often come with them. His teaching centers on love for the Prophet ﷺ. He has taught the sīrah, tafsīr, and books like Qāḍī ʿIyāḍ's al-Shifāʾ and Imam al-Nawawī's Forty Ḥadīth in weekly classes over many years of service, and he travels across the country to speak at conferences, retreats and community programs on subjects relevant to Muslim life in the West.
